Who can refer to Summit AP?+
Referrals are accepted from schools, local authorities and relevant professionals with an appropriate safeguarding and information sharing basis to do so. Parents and carers are welcome to make initial contact, but a formal placement is arranged through the referring school or commissioner.
What age group do you support?+
Summit AP supports young people of secondary school age, with provision shaped around the individual learner. Specific year groups and arrangements are discussed during the suitability conversation.
Is Summit AP suitable for every young person?+
No. Summit AP is a specialist small group provision and is not suitable for every young person. Each enquiry is considered carefully and individually so we can be honest about whether we are the right environment.
How do you assess suitability?+
Suitability is assessed through a conversation with the referrer, a review of relevant information (such as SEND, attendance, safeguarding and risk information) and a risk assessment. We will say if we do not believe Summit AP is the right placement.
Do you provide functional maths and English?+
Yes. Functional skills in maths and English are part of the core offer, delivered at a pace appropriate to each learner. The aim is steady, practical progress rather than pressure.
Do learners work towards qualifications?+
Learners are supported to work towards appropriate qualifications depending on their starting point, attendance and engagement. We are careful not to overpromise outcomes and discuss realistic pathways with the referring school.
How do you communicate with schools?+
Communication is proportionate and consistent — covering attendance, engagement, behaviour for learning and progress against agreed outcomes. Review arrangements are agreed at the start of each placement.
How do you manage safeguarding concerns?+
Safeguarding is led by a Designated Safeguarding Lead and underpinned by safer recruitment, daily practice, clear reporting routes and partnership with referring schools and statutory services. Concerns are shared without delay through the agreed channels.
Can placements support reintegration?+
Where appropriate, placements can support reintegration into school, post-16 settings or vocational pathways. Reintegration is planned carefully with the referring school and is not promised as a universal outcome.
How can a school request more information?+
Schools and commissioners can request placement information, policies and due diligence documents through the Request Placement Information form. We aim to respond promptly using your preferred contact method.
